We love TED at Now Go Create and now we love TED ED, the new portal that allows you to take a TED talk and create a workshop. So we’ve done just that with one of our current favourite talks. Is your workplace divided into so called “creatives” versus practical people? IDEO Founder David Kelley suggests creativity is not the domain of only a chosen few but that we are all born creative & some of us lose our confidence. Telling stories from his legendary design career and his life and drawing on a diverse range of sources, he offers everyone insights into creativity.
This TED clip is a brilliant introduction to David and Tom Kelley’s book Creative Confidence. The book expands on their philosophy (and ours) that everyone is creative and can expand their horizon with lots of case studies and practical advice. The Kelley’s are founders of IDEO – a global design consultancy that has design thinking at its heart. Find out more about them here. Design Thinking is a methodology to generate ideas. Fast Company has brilliant articles on all things creative – you can read more about DT and many other innovation-related subjects here. The notion of self-efficacy can be summed up Henry Ford’s famous quote “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right”.
- We dig a bit deeper into the content – does what Kelley says about creative confidence strike a cord with you?
- Have there been any good (or negative) incidents in your life that you can pinpoint that might have shaped your beliefs in relation to your creativity?
