From clothesline to lifeline – how supermarket Minipreço gave cash-strapped residents income by hanging ads on their clothes lines
One of the consequences of the success of Airbnb is that local residents can be effectively ‘priced out’ of rental accommodation in popular destinations. Budget Portugeuse supermarket Minipreço acknowledged this and wanted to help. Rather than just making donations, the company identified the most in need and gave a media value to their washing lines! They offered families the money to advertise on the lines, where as in many cities washing over balconies and into the streets is a common sight.
We love this as a great example of making profit and doing good ‘purpose’ – not being mutually exclusive.
